Alkaline Foods - Foods can be classified as alkaline, acidic, or neutral. Maintaining the proper pH balance in the body is one way to ensure optimal health. Most people in Western cultures tend to eat too many acid forming foods and not enough alkaline food. The result can be low energy, weight gain and a slow degeneration of health. Common foods that increase acidity levels in the body include beef, cheese and wheat. Many popular diets already encourage a less acidic diet without directly saying so. Generally, you can't go wrong by eating more leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. Vegetables and nuts are great alkaline foods, loaded with vitamins and minerals and are more likely to create a more alkaline state in the body.
